Secret
of the Dragon's Eye by Derek Hart |
A charming and exciting adventure When I discovered Secret of the Dragon's Eye 1. is set in World War II Britain and 2. features one of my favourite mythical beasts, a dragon, my curiosity was raised and I couldn't wait to read the novel. Mr. Hart has done his research well: in the first half of the book, life in wartime Britain is described with a lot of convincing detail and a little (British?) humour thrown in for good measure. I couldn't wait to meet the dragon, and I wasn't disappointed: Sir Thaddeus Osbert is anything a dragon should be: he has charisma, wisdom, heart, and buckets full of dragon charm. He also has a weak spot (for sugar) which, like his fondness for humans has gotten him into trouble in the past. It doesn't take long for Thaddeus' young friend Gavin to experience the horror and futility of war and revenge first-hand, and Gavin and his friends learn important lessons about love, courage and friendship as they are caught up in the battle for the legendary sword Excalibur, coveted by both the British wartime government and the Nazis. And just as they think all battles are done, Sir Thaddeus' past catches up with him. An exciting children's / YA historical fantasy adventure that will also appeal to adults who are young of heart! |

Stories that should be told Terrorizing dreams, panic attacks, and everyday interactions bring back a past eighth-grade teacher, Melissa Bates believed to be buried for good. As the school year wears on, she sees signs of an all too familiar situation in one of her students, Christy Kade. Christy hopes that school will be different this year with the arrival of a brand new friendship. Her adventures with Beth take her mind off what lies at home. Still she lives in silent fear, dreading her father's "secret, special games." When everything is going well-finally-she is pulled back into herself by the horrific pain that never seems to end. As our heroines open themselves up to the lessons taught to them by their loved ones, they grow in ways they’d never thought possible. Ugly things do happen behind closed doors, but help—and hope—exist. Buy a copy through 'Authors promoting Authors' here! |

Working with Angels This book is a helpful tool for anyone wanting to gain more insight in the nature of angels, Archangels and Earth angels and working with them. It not only describe the Archangels and Earth angels in detail: their tasks, their themes, and what they can do for people. It also gives a good overview of angels in relation to the dual nature of earthly existence, on why and how to communicate with them, etc. The author uses personal anecdotes throughout the book, as well as experiences of others with angels, which I found particularly helpful as it truly brings the material to life. Indeed much more than just a guide for using the Lichtwesen essences! |

Faerie sense An oracle that is unlike all other card oracles, the Faerie's Oracle buzzes with fae energy. The descriptions of the fae folk adoring the cards are moving, insightful, silly and downright hilarious, but always right on the spot. Brian Froud's faery pictures are impressive - they really make the faery folk come alive. Some of them favorites (the Maiden, the cutest faery child you've ever seen), some of them familair 'pests' (the Fee Lion, O, that Gnome!) who only want to get us on the right track! Honestly! Even when they have to trip us up! Some of them are even a little scary - but only when you've not befriended them yet. I think. Ahem. And, unlike you might expect from a faery oracle, there are cards to represent the major forces in the universe - Unity, the Masculine, the Feminine, etc. The accompanying hardcover booklet is beautiful and rich in information, the cards not too big and not too small, and easy to shuffle. The only complaint I can possibly come up with is the title font on the cards - very stylish but a little hard to read. Use them for traditional spreads, use them for meditation, set them on your desk for inspiration and guidance. Above all, enjoy them! |
